Angel Cortello press release, book signing for “Angel: The True Story of an Undeserved Chance”

Alexandria, LA—Last year her book published, and this year she’s taking her message of hope on the road.

Earlier this year, Angel Cortello had speaking engagements in San Marcos, TX and Miami, FL. She’ll be speaking in Austin, TX in soon and in August, she heads to Providence, Rhode Island as a guest speaker at another conference.

This Saturday, Cortello will be at Hastings bookstore in Alexandria, LA on Saturday, June 28 from 3 to 7 p.m. to meet readers and talk about her book, which will be available at the store.
She will be appearing on Jambalaya on KALB-TV, Wednesday, June 26, to invite the public to her book signing.

Her book goes to places she can’t reach. One man, a prisoner in Oklahoma serving 20 years, read her book and wrote, “I’ve read it twice. The first time in 8 hours. Words can not express how much it ministered to my heart, and encouraged me to take the things in my life, and allow God to use them for His glory… Also, I have about 20 of my friends in line to read it, and God is already moving through your book.”AngelCover

In her book, Angel: The True Story of an Undeserved Chance, she shares her story of being lost in a world of emotional problems, addiction, prostitution and the street life. This is the true story of how she chose recovery and freedom, even in the midst of consequences such as HIV.

She is currently writing a devotional of daily prayer and inspiration for people living with chronic illness.

The book, Angel: The True Story of an Undeserved Chance is available through all major bookstores. It was published by Our Written Lives of Hope, LLC in 2012.

A trip to the park

I recently went to visit my Granny in Harker Heights, Texas. I used to live in Harker Heights. In fact, it was the place I first lived after moving out of my parents’ house. I had an apartment in a four-plex on the edge of a nice neighborhood. I enjoyed walking my dogs through the hills of that neighborhood, as well as at the local Carl Levin Park.

It’s been almost two years since I lived in Harker Heights, and my dogs and I were happy to take a trek to our old walking grounds. There were quite a few additions to the park since we were there last, namely a community garden and these two cute boxes called the “Little Free Library.”

I was so impressed with the Little Free Library. I loved the concept of trading books at the park. I decided to leave a copy of “Angel” there. Maybe one day I will hear back from the person who picks up the book! The book I took in exchange was a book about parenting during deployment, a topic near and dear to my heart.

Harker Heights is located just outside of Fort Hood, Texas. Ironically, that area was not only the first place I lived as an adult on my own, it was also the first place I moved to with my family as a six-month old, after my birth in Houston, Texas. Fort Hood was Dad’s first duty station as an Army Chaplain.

The first order of “Angel” books

I was so excited to receive the first order of 200 “Angel” books! It was quite an experience getting the books…. We almost didn’t have them in time. What a disaster that would have been! But thankfully, it worked out. Five minutes later and we would have been without books.    It was my first time to order books in bulk. I had received the sample copy within a matter of a week, so I thought ordering in bulk would be the same process. WRONG.
They needed three weeks to process the order, and I needed the books in less than a week. I had it in my head that I could get the books on a 48 hour turn around.   I sat outside eating my lunch at work, trying to find a way to make my order of books appear. I called a printer that was an hour away. They weren’t sure they could handle the job. They had to discuss it.
I remembered seeing and ad for DIGGY POD online. I looked them up. Yes! They had the 48 hour turn-around! I called them.   “Yes, we can do it for you!” The lady on the phone was very helpful. “But we need you to turn in your order before 2 p.m.” With 5 minutes to spare, I placed the order and the books arrived in time to sell them at the POA’s Freedom Weekend, and at the Louisiana Campgrounds during Family Week 2013.
No more waiting until the last minute ever again! I wouldn’t have been so late, but I had an unwanted adventure the week before… that’s another story…
